B&K QUEEN ELIZABETH
Elizabeth (aka Lizzy) graduated from Noah Dog Training Academy on April 14, 2007 in Advanced Obedience. On May 6, 2007 she earned her AKC Canine Good Citizens certificate. We were very proud of her and she loved going to class. On June 16, 2007 she was in the Pet Parade in Three Oaks, MI for the Flag Day celebration and won "Most Patriotic". This was her very first time pulling her wagon around a crowd. She did this as if she had been doing it all her life. BRISTLES We are happy to learn that one of Tonya's puppies (Bristles) is learning to dock dive now. She was recently mentioned in the Rockford Register Star newspaper for "Flying Fidos". Bristles best jump was 9 ft 10 in. In her division she won 1 First Place Ribbon, 3 Second Place Ribbons and 1 qualifing Ribbon. We are very proud of her owner Darlene. Bristles also recently passed herSociety Certification and is now certified as a Pet Partner Team (Animal Assisted Therapy. The following was an email we received from Bistles's owner. She was a big hit at the Delta Society Booth at a Healthcare Facility Symposium at Navy Pier. We were there for 2 1/2 hours and she was a great promoter of Animal Assisted Therapy and enjoyed all the belly rubs she was getting. The booth was at the entrance to the lunch area so we just walked up and down the line of people waiting to get in. The smiles she cause was worth it all. I did try some draft work with her last month. Finally found something she didn't like instantly. The noise of the cart behind her bother her. So we worked on her just pulling a water bottle with the cart next to her to get her use to the noise. Once she got use to it she was fine and the tail and head perk back up. Have purchase her a cart and harness will be going out to the gentleman who made it. He offer to help fit the poles and show me the proper fit for the harness. Just need to fine the time. Also would love to get up by you and Bob. You are so much a part of her life that I wish you were closer so we could visit more. You should be very proud of our girl and the part you play in her success The following was published in the Newf News January/February 2007 newsletter. Big Dogs CAN Jump When Darlene Rattner takes her Landseer to DockDogs competitions, people often ask, "Can the big dog jump?" She can and she does. Bristle literally makes a big splash at DockDogs competions. As the only Newf in the Chicagoland group, she stands out among the smaller dogs. Bristle (B & K Bristles Bear) is a 22 month old girl who made her first jump in June. Her best jump to date is 10 feet, 6 inches. They both love the sport so much they continue to compete. Bristle is an active girl. She has earned her Canine Good Citizen award, is a Therap Dog with the Delta Society and loves agility. Bristle and the other members of Chicagoland DockDogs groups were on WGN and CBS television news as they competed at the Cicagoland Outdoor Show in January. DockDogs sport started as a filler event called Big Air Dogs at the ESPN Great Outdoor Games in 2000 and is the fastest growing canine sport in America with over 100 events and shows scheduled for 2007. The sport is open to any breed or mix. In 2005, a Greyhound Mix named Country jumped 28feet10inches and is the current World Record Holder. Jumps are measured from the end of the dock to where the base of the dog's tail hits the water. Whilte some dogs will naturally leap from the dock into the pond or pool water, others require encouragement to make the plunge. For indoor events, a temporary dock and pool are erected. The sport is based on play and handlers are not allowed to push their dogs into the water. Dogs tyically run the length of the 40 foot dock and jump into the water in pursuit of a bumper, ball or other toy thrown by their handler. Bristle has her own style and enjoys playing to the crowd. She stops at the end of the dock and looks to the crowd for attention before making her jump. ROSIE We are also very proud of our girl, Rosie, who just went to live with a wonderful family and is starting her career as a Service Dog. She is now in training and is doing very well. The following is an email that we received from Rosie's new owner on November 3, 2006. We are so very proud of Rosie's accomplishments. I am glad you emailed me because I have been intending to drop you a note as well. I am glad to hear that all is well with you. I have had several opportunities to recommend you to potential Newfy owners. Rosie is just great and I am proud to tell you that she is now a fully certified Service Dog! She has been everywhere with me. She received a blue ribbon for her first basic obedience class also. She received 93 out of 100 points and the only reason it was not 100 was that I missed 2 classes due to having a cold and another appointment. She has been to restaurants, stores, the mall here, on a train, playing with other dogs, my painting class, and tomorrow I am taking her on a bus ride. Everywhere I take her everyone who sees her comments on her beautiful coat and manners. This is the list of tasks she does as my PSD and I have to give you full credit for most of them because she did most of them when I got herJ 1.Nudge and keep contact with handler 2. Lay her head in on partner/handlers’ lap nudge or cue until I respond 3. Do “Lap-up” with forepaws on partner/handlers’ lap holding this position, also head on shoulder on command. 4. Lick face and hands to soothe. 5. Get on bed and be able to tolerate a lengthy stay, obediently lying across or in contact with partner/handler . 6. Carry water and medication for partner/handler 7. Heal, stay, sit, and come at command of partner/handler It was starting to sprinkle so the dots you see on Ronda’s pics is just rain dropsJ She will receive her certification badge in the next few days. I can not tell you how much she has filled my and Mike’s (Dave) life with joy. Thank you again for sharing her with us. |
